Action Alert: Stop The Nury Martinez Power Grab! Don’t exploit the 10th Council District!

Action Alert: Stop The Nury Martinez Power Grab! Don’t exploit the 10th Council District!

Last week it was reported that  Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez plans to move forward with appointing someone to the 10th Council District in the coming weeks.

Her motives are clear. She wants to control the person appointed to the 10th Council District to make her acting mayor when Eric Garcetti steps down to become the Ambassador to India. We need checks and balances in the City. This is too much power for one member to have.

Martinez has also failed to meet with a coalition of South Los Anglees Ministers who have requested to meet with her. Her disrespect for our community must be called out. https://ourweekly.com/news/2022/02/03/black-l-a-religious-leaders-decry-l-a-city-councils-voter-disenfranchisement/

We must demand that the Council not support any move by Nury Martinez to control the vote in Council District 10.

There are two actions you can take.

1. Call into the Council meetings on Wednesday, February 9 at 10:00AM.

2. Email and call the members of the Council to urge them not to support the Martinez Power Grab.

I write to respectfully request that you oppose Nury Martinez’s power grab!

She has made it clear that she intends to select an appointee to vote on behalf of the 10th Council District - but she has never shown that she has the 10th District’s interests at heart. This is a power play to tie up another vote to make her interim mayor. Any person she appoints would be beholden to Martinez - not accountable to 10th District constituents.

Please vote no on any motion she makes to appoint someone. We need checks and balances at City Hall.
